According to Tim Whornsby (and others), the Nashville Predators have put defenseman Victor Bartley on waivers.
The former Regina Pats captain is generally considered the “number seven” in a deep Predators defense corps and, due to a lack of injuries, has played just one game this season. Last year, however, he had a career year. Despite playing the same role, Bartley registered 10 points in 37 games and suited up for four of Nashville’s playoff contests against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Last Sunday, the Predators claimed blueliner Petter Granberg off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs, further complicating the situation on defense. Nashville was already carrying eight rearguards in Shea Weber, Roman Josi, Seth Jones, Barrett Jackman, Ryan Ellis, Mattias Ekholm, Anthony Bitetto and Bartley. Adding Granberg to the mix meant somebody had to go once he was healthy and cleared to play. Today’s move might be an indication that that’s about to happen.
Bartley will get numerous looks on the waiver wire. He’s a solid enough player to crack many teams’ top six and shouldn’t make it to the Preds’ minor league affiliate the Milwaukee Admirals.
We’ll find out at 11am Central on Monday.
