EXPERT TAKES
“The most exciting thing about Trenin is how much he has improved in his first QMJHL season. ‘Every game he seems to get better,’ said one scount. ‘When a guy plays that big a role for Benoit Groulx, that says something.’ Groulx, Gatineau’s head coach, has a rep for identifying and nurturing talent, which means Trenin is in a great situation.” – The Hockey News
“Started the year on the wing but finished at center and he showed even more of his two-way game. Solid positioning in all three zones, extremely aware. Plays important minutes both on offense and defense, including key faceoffs.” – ISS
“A big, strong forward who is more playmaker than goal scorer. Attracted scouts with his smarts and responsible game, though skating is a drawback. Not that agile and labours to keep up due to a truncated stride and nominal footspeed.” – McKeen’s Hockey
“Skates with an awkward but powerful hunched over stride, generating decent speed. Needs to work on his foot speed. Creativity with the puck is impressive. Controls pucks fairly well and protects it due to his size. Possesses very good vision and creativity in his passing game. Possess a very hard shot with a pretty good release but needs to shoot more. He finishes his checks, goes in front of the net and drives in the corners battling for pucks. Competitiveness is good as well as his defensive game.” – Future Considerations
