After being in the Nashville Predators system for the last four years, defenseman Adam Wilsby has been recalled. He could make his NHL debut as the Predators still have four more games on their current road trip.
So far this season, Wilsby has three points in 11 contests but since joining the Milwaukee Admirals he has 53 points in 178 total games, playoffs included.
General manager Barry Trotz has mentioned Wilsby’s name when he’s discussed the depth on his blue line, as has Admirals head coach Karl Taylor who said back in March that Wilsby has been knocking on the door.
“He came in two years ago, we threw him into a playoff game out of the blue & he handled it good. He looked good in practice with his feet,” Taylor said.
“Last year he had a good year with Spencer Stastney, those two guys the way they defend at this level, they played against top lines all through the playoffs.”
According to Taylor, Wilsby got off to a slow start in 2023’s training camp in Nashville. That translated to scratching Wilsby for the first game of the 23-24 season & the rest was history.
“He’s solely pieced it together & asked for more… You see him attack off the blue line, his legs & there’s more offense there still to him. I think we have to keep feeding that animal & try to prepare him for that,” Taylor said.
“The way he defends & the way he’s playing with confidence, you can see when players are close to being ready. It’s not that they’re better than the league or everyone else, it’s that they’re demanding attention with how confident they are in their game. It seems like he’s ready for the opportunity.”
The Predators are set to take on the Edmonton Oilers tomorrow night to start a back-to-back for games two & three of their road trip. Wilsby could draw in for his first career game over the next few days.
