Newly wedded Nashville Predators forward Cody Glass has been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Glass married his longtime girlfriend Bailey on Aug. 3 & now the young couple will pack their life up to move to the Steel City.
Nashville sent Glass to the Penguins along with a 2025 3rd-round pick (Minnesota) & a 6th-round pick in 2026 for forward Jordan Frasca.
Glass had 13 points in 41 games this past season & enters the final year of a $5 million contract he signed as a restricted free agent on July 1, 2023.
The Winnipeg native was scratched 23 times in 23-24 & had trouble staying in head coach Andrew Brunette’s lineup.
Within the first 17 games of last season Glass was placed on injured reserve twice. Once was for a lower-body injury with the second being an upper-body injury.
“It was tough, I’m grateful for it. It’s a learning experience but I think going into next year I’m at that age where I’m at the peak of my career,” Glass said back in May.
Glass is joining a Penguins team that features 37-year-old Sidney Crosby who has yet to sign an extension as he enters this fall. Pittsburgh has failed to reach the playoffs for the last two seasons.
New Penguins forward Anthony Beauvillier is the lone teammate Glass used to play with, albeit it was for the final two months of the Predators season before a first-round playoff exit.
Regardless of the change of scenery for Glass, now the second trade of his career, he understood going home this summer that the next season would be monumental considering he’ll be an RFA next summer.
“This is why we play, the pressure that comes on you. I’m looking forward to it, it’s going to be fun,” Glass said.
Glass mentioned he was going to focus on his speed this summer back home before the 2024-25 season.
Albeit he was frustrated at times this last season Glass was “sick to his stomach” when he didn’t get in the lineup.
“It’s my own doing & it’s tough, it’s not something I want to talk about & I wish I could stand here proud saying I did everything I could,” Glass said. “I’m going to make sure this never happens again. I have one more year left on my deal & this is very important to me.”
Nashville will host Glass & the Penguins on Dec. 19 for presumably his first game back in town as a visitor.
