The Tennessee Titans have been a major story around sports, as they became the first NFL team to suffer a COVID-19 outbreak this season.
All of this started when Titans defensive coach Shane Bowen did not travel with the team to Minnesota due to being placed in the COVID-19 protocol. That Week 3 game was played on Sept. 20.
Since Sept. 24, the team has experienced 23 positive tests and is currently the subject of an investigation regarding the NFL’s virus-related protocols potentially not being met.
The Titans’ Week 4 game vs. Pittsburgh was re-scheduled to Oct. 25 and there’s much doubt about whether their game vs. Buffalo will take place this Sunday after two consecutive days of more positive tests this week.
What kind of penalties could the Titans be facing for the mess they’ve created for the NFL and other teams? Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk joined Jared & The GM Thursday to weigh in:
“There was a sense over the weekend that the league was going to look for a way to hit the Titans,” Florio said. “The argument from the league is this: if you follow our protocols, you’ll be fine. Therefore, if you’re not fine, you must not have followed our protocols, so it’s your fault and not ours.
“As we’ve learned more about what has gone on with the Titans, it goes from not following protocols to questions that are lingering about what the Titans knew and when they knew it before they went to Minnesota (in Week 3). Some in the league are speculating that maybe the Titans concealed information from the Vikings and/or the league office before going up to Minnesota for the game … and then there are the workouts from last week.”
Florio published a story Wednesday on Pro Football Talk saying the Titans “could end up being hammered” by the NFL.
Florio added with Jared & The GM Thursday, “The possibility of (Mike Vrabel and Jon Robinson) being suspended for the rest of the year has been mentioned by others in the league who are watching this. That by no means is a reflection of what the league will actually do.”
