Former Titans running back Eddie George joined ESPN 102.5 The Game’s Jared & The GM on Tuesday to discuss all things related to the Titans. George played in several big games as a Titan, a few of which you can read about here.
With all of his big game experience, George offered some advice to the young Titans squad.
“You have nothing to lose at all. You have to go up there, you have to be locked in, you have to be focused.” George said, “You have to realize you’ve already played one playoff game and the pressure is off you.”
Beating Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and the Patriots is a daunting task. With an inexperienced team like the Titans, intimidation could be a factor that plays in favor of the Patriots. Teams like Alabama football or Kentucky basketball “win before they step on the field” because of their historic prowess. George emphasized that Coach Mularkey and his players have to be prepared for everything the Patriots have.
Although New England has been historically great, no team is invincible.
“Don’t be intimidated by the Super Bowl trophies, the lore of Tom Brady, or you know Gronk is a tough matchup.” George said, “You’re there, you’re there to fight. You have to make it a fist fight for 60 minutes and make them earn it.”
Dan Shaughnessy and much of the rest of the media have written off the Titans this weekend. A relatively disappointing offense all season was propelled to the postseason by a strong defense in several “muddy” games. Typically, teams without All-Pro pass rushers and electric offenses can’t get past the Patriots. But George doesn’t think the Titans should be counted out yet, “I like the fact that we’re going on the road, you have to lock in you have to focus. I think they can go into this game and find a way to win in the end.”
